problem
Students in large university campuses in India often struggle with transportation: -Campuses are expansive, making walking impractical for daily commuting - Many private universities are located far from city centers - Common options like autos and cabs are expensive, even for short distances - Owning a two-wheeler is costly due to fuel, maintenance, and parking These challenges disproportionately affect students who rely on frequent, short-distance travel both inside and outside campus.
solution
Wheelie focuses on providing on-demand two-wheeler rentals tailored for students studying at large campuses (such as SRM University, Chennai). The app emphasizes affordability, accessibility, and ease of use, making short-distance travel more practical for students.
This project was inspired by my own experience as an undergraduate student. During my undergrad years, I often struggled with transportation around campus and while traveling into the city. While there were several two-wheeler rental shops located near the campus, discovering them was never straightforward. Most of the time, I only learned about these options through word of mouth-friends, seniors, or random recommendations.
Having personally faced these challenges, I felt that a simple, student-focused app that aggregated nearby two-wheeler rental options and allowed users to book easily could have made a real difference, not just for me, but for many students in similar environments. This realization became the foundation for Wheelie.
